The study is complete. At this time we'd like to tell you a little bit about the purpose of the study.

This was an experiment on how humans estimate distances and whether this estimate is affected by whether they are looking up or looking down.

There is some evidence to suggest that when we look down from a high place we overestimate how high up we are than when we are at the bottom of that same spot and looking up. This experiment was designed to gather data to explore this idea. One explanation for why this difference exists is an evolutionary one - if you had this tendency to overestimate distances when looking down this would be a survival advantage because you would probably not approach the edge of high cliff (and possibly fall). Those without this tendency may have been less likely to survive.
