Aggressive Acts
Debrief
You may have noticed from watching this cartoon that sometimes it's quite easy to identify an aggressive act, such as when Daffy gets blasted in the face by Porky. However, consider this:
-
Some participants may not have seen ANY acts of aggression in this cartoon. After all, when Porky shoots Daffy, does he feel angry? Is shooting someone (or a duck) out of sport an example of an aggressive act?
-
Some participants might consider what Bugs is doing is aggressive. After all, he is primarily the reason why Porky shoots Daffy so many times. Researchers call this kind of aggression "relational aggression".
-
Do women see more acts of aggression in the cartoon than men? Some research says that women are more likely to use relational, rather than physical aggression. Relational aggression can include gossiping or any type of manipulation where one person attempts to hurt another person's social status or relationship with others.
There were probably a wide range of aggression scores from participants. Let's take a look. Click the Results button below.
